Prevent Frozen Water Pipes

Due to the persistent cold weather which has driven the frost level deeper than in recent years, and because we have seen a number of frozen lines in the last several days, the Village of Hartland Water Utility encourages everyone to take measures to prevent water pipes from freezing. • Open your sink cabinet doors to allow heat into the area of the pipes and drains. • Run both water faucets frequently during the day and especially during low use hours. • Open heating vents in the basement to keep your basement and the piping warm. • Install pipe insulation on all pipes that are visible. • If you notice a drop in water pressure, run your facets for five minutes every few hours to keep the water flowing through your water service. • Run your faucets with a constant, slow trickle during the nighttime hours to keep water circulating. • Consider maintaining a constant temperature in your house all day long. By following these simple steps, you can avoid having expensive repair bills from frozen water pipes. Contact Village Hall at 367-2714 with any questions.
